Insurance providers

“When it comes to persistent pain and/or fatigue, it is important that the right experts are commissioned to ensure claimants are supported to be able to live a valued life again, including fulfilling work aspirations.”

Monica Garcia, Expert Disability Insurance Consultant

How do we support claims assessors?

  • We help people with persistent pain, fatigue, and post-viral syndromes, including Post Covid-19 Syndrome (Long Covid), to optimise their recovery and manage their symptoms so they can remain in work or return to work.

  • We enable people to return to work, after a period of sickness absence. We have been working within the income protection market for over ten years and have a thorough understanding of the needs and drivers of the protection insurance sector. We have been supporting providers to determine the best way forward for claimants presenting with these symptoms and whose work capacity is affected.

  • Vitality360 continuously updates its services in response to the changing insurance market. We can support claimants with persistent symptoms of pain and/or fatigue to restore physical and cognitive function so they can resume work in their insured role, or in an alternative occupation, depending on the individual’s work capabilities and limitations. We can also provide expert clinical opinions on long-term work capacity, taking into consideration the product’s definition, to assist in the claims management process.

  • We aim to make your decision-making easier around what to do next with a claim, with reliable medical/functional/work information. We have our signposting tool to support assessors to determine which pathway is most suited to their client, depending on medical history and duration since first absence from work.

What is the service scope?

Products:

Income Protection (IP) and Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Claims.

Conditions:

Persistent/chronic pain or fatigue (with or without an underlying cause) which has a negative impact on an individuals' ability to function.

Target:

Individuals at work (but struggling to manage health condition), new claimants who recently became absent from work, and individuals on long-term sickness absence.

We work alongside employers to facilitate a client’s return to work if appropriate, and the adaptations that may be necessary to achieve agreed outcomes.

Our experience alongside research indicates that the earlier rehabilitation is offered following symptom onset, the better the outcomes such as capacity to work.

What are the expected benefits?

  • Potential to influence claim duration and outcomes, including proportional benefit, for claims already in payment (e.g. age demographic is 28 to 65 years, with 46 as the average, therefore potentially with a substantial period remaining on their claim)

  • Identify those at risk of being off work for longer

  • Savings on medical spending with timely and realistic intervention

  • Clarity and expert clinical opinion on functional impact of rehabilitation in relation to the insured role and specific policy definition

  • Potential reduced claims incidence through an early intervention approach

  • Quicker turnaround times for claims assessment and management, avoiding NHS delays

  • Improved customer journey

People with persistent pain and/or fatigue need access to quality specialist treatment fast.

People often receive conflicting advice on appropriate treatment and vocational options. Lack of clarity, delays, or poor access to specialist bespoke rehabilitation support can increase distress, worsen symptoms, and decrease function, which can lead to further sickness absence. With such lack of support, people can seek their own treatment pathways, with the risk of adopting clinically unproven approaches.

Vitality360’s award winning bespoke rehabilitation programmes overcome these potential issues for claimants.
